Stevia is a sugar substitute, which makes it a critical component of any low glycemic index diet. Unless you do not find sweets tempting at all, you are probably going to want to use some kind of sugar substitute if you are going to succeed at the low GI diet long term. After all, very few people would be OK with completely forsaking sweet beverages and desserts completely for the rest of their life. Stevia, specifically, is the considered by many to be the healthiest low GI sugar substitute because it is an extract of the leaves of the Stevia plant and therefore all natural. You don’t have to consume all the factory produced chemicals that you get with saccharin and aspartame based sweeteners. And there is zero sugar, and zero calories.
Sweet Leaf Sweet Drops Liquid Stevia Sweetener
Sweet Leaf Liquid Stevia is the favorite and recommended brand of Stevias from us here at Low GI Plan. First of all, it is in liquid form and comes in a dropper, which is the most convenient and versatile form of Stevia. This allows you to quickly and easily drop some in your coffees and teas, and also add it to your low GI desserts. The other great feature of Sweet Leaf is that it comes in many flavors that are all outstanding. You can get the “clear” flavor, which is more of a standard sugar taste, but our favorite is the English Toffee. It adds a delicious element beverages, desserts, and even savory low GI dishes like grilled chicken, turkey, and vegetables.
